The VECTRA WB360 Scans 100th Hoag Skin Cancer Patient
Hoag Innovators funded the VECTRA in spring 2022, making Hoag the first institution in California to adopt this leading-edge technology.
Using magnifying glass-like digital dermascopes equipped with artificial intelligence software, Dr. Steven Wang, director of dermatologic oncology at Hoag, provides each patient who sees him with a full, head-to-toe exam. Patients who qualify, often those with many lesions, may also receive a full-body scan in the VECTRA WB360, which employs 92 cameras that flash simultaneously to capture a patient’s entire skin surface and map all moles and lesions in less than two seconds. The VECTRA became operational at Hoag in 2023 after receiving Hoag Innovators’ funding in spring 2022, making Hoag the first institution in California to adopt this leading-edge technology. In October, Dr. Wang scanned the 100th skin cancer patient at Hoag using the VECTRA, helping to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and accessibility of early detection in collaboration with local dermatologists.
