Thanks in part to community support, Hoag’s neonatal intensive care unit can count on an expert team, which was instrumental in ensuring that Jay Sanchez grew from a one-pound baby at birth to a thriving nine-pound boy.
One pound. That’s how much Jay Sanchez weighed when he was born more than three months premature. Small but mighty, Jay spent 133 days in Hoag’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) surrounded by a cheering squad that included his parents, Megan and Mikey, and the Hoag nurses and doctors who built a bond with the Sanchez family during the journey. Jay went home a thriving nine-pound boy and celebrated his first birthday this year. His family commemorated the milestone at the Hoag OC Marathon Running Festival alongside the Hoag team who helped him defy the odds.
“We’re honored to not only have his NICU nurses as friends but consider them family now,” Jay’s mom, Megan, said.
The Hoag NICU is committed to supporting both infants and their families. Thanks in part to generous donor support, Hoag’s NICU can count on an expert neonatal team, including a renowned physician and a dedicated nurse navigator to support compassionate coordination of care. With philanthropic support, Hoag continues to deliver life-changing care to our smallest, most vulnerable patients at all stages of their lives and strengthen them for the journey ahead. Neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, and more make up a comprehensive team of specialists who are hands-on in healing. With commitments from our community, Hoag’s NICU was ready to wrap its arms around Jay and his family when they needed it most.
With your support, Hoag can continue delivering life-changing care to our smallest, most vulnerable patients at all stages of their lives and strengthen them for the journey ahead.
