From mental health to diabetes management and more, Hoag has moms covered, ensuring women have the resources they need to take care of themselves and their families.
As Orange County’s population of women and expecting mothers grows and diversifies, Hoag is looking to the future and responding with programs and services thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of women throughout our community. Thanks to support from philanthropy, these programs provide a comprehensive, whole-person approach to care that ensures moms have the right health and wellness resources at their disposal.
Chief among these resources are maternal mental health services. As the busiest maternity hospital in California, Hoag screens 100% of moms who deliver at Hoag for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Moms with a mental health condition have access to individual and group psychotherapy in addition to medication safety evaluations during pregnancy and while breastfeeding as well as a host of other support services.
For women experiencing pregnancy with diabetes, the Ueberroth Family Program for Women with Diabetes provides diabetes care before, during, and after pregnancy. This includes women with preexisting type 1 or type 2 diabetes as well as women who develop gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during pregnancy. Because roughly 50% of women with GDM go on to develop type 2 diabetes, Hoag’s program includes access to nutrition education, blood glucose monitoring, and counseling on the impact of GDM geared around prevention.
These and other hospital programs are complemented by new at-home services like Hoag at Home Postpartum+ and Hoag’s Nona app to make the transition from birth to parenthood less stressful. Postpartum+ nurse practitioners visit moms and babies in the comfort of their home to develop an individualized care plan that supports bonding. Meanwhile, certified postnatal experts and lactation consultants are available at any mom’s fingertips, providing real-time, personalized advice any time of the day or night.
However women choose to access the care that best fits their needs, Hoag is dedicated to giving moms the tools they need and want to be at their healthiest and care for their families.
