Hoag leads the way in nursing excellence as the only Southern California hospital among 18 nationwide to earn Magnet with Distinction® recognition from the American Nurse Credentialing Center.
Hoag has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence in nursing, earning its fifth Magnet® designation and, for the first time, the prestigious Magnet with Distinction® recognition. This honor places Hoag among an elite group of 18 institutions nationwide and the only one in Southern California to exceed the rigorous standards of nursing quality set by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
This recognition is not just a testament to Hoag’s nursing excellence but also to the pivotal role of philanthropy in elevating the quality of care. Generous contributions from donors like the Argyros family have profoundly impacted Hoag’s nursing services, enabling Hoag to achieve this exceptional level of excellence.
The Julia Argyros Center for Nursing Excellence, established through more than $32 million in philanthropic support from the Argyros family, has been instrumental in transforming nursing education at Hoag. Thousands of nurses have benefited from scholarships funded by this support, leading to a remarkable 88% of Hoag nurses earning Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees and many pursuing advanced education. This investment in education has created a ripple effect, enhancing patient outcomes, job satisfaction, and nurse retention—all cornerstones of Magnet® recognition.
“Our nurses are at the heart of everything we do, and their dedication inspires us to deliver exceptional care to our community,” said Rick Martin, Ed.D, MSN, RN, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Hoag. “The Magnet with Distinction® honor reaffirms our commitment to setting higher standards in patient care, made possible in no small part by the support of our generous donors.”
Achieving Magnet® recognition is a major accomplishment. The ANCC evaluates applicants through a research-driven framework, focusing on components like nursing practice, research, and measurable outcomes. Magnet designation signifies higher patient satisfaction, improved outcomes, and a proven ability to recruit and retain top-tier nursing talent.
This Magnet with Distinction® recognition marks a milestone in Hoag’s journey, reinforcing the connection between community support and groundbreaking advancements in health care. With continued philanthropic support, nurses at Hoag have access to scholarships and continuing education, empowering these dedicated professionals to grow their expertise and elevate patient care. Hoag’s commitment to fostering an environment of excellence is exemplified in the transformative impact of this support—enhancing patient safety, improving clinical outcomes, and inspiring innovation.
As Hoag continues to set the bar for nursing excellence, the impact of our donors remains an inspiring testament to the power of giving and contributes to a culture of compassion that extends to every patient we serve.
