Excitement around Hoag’s Sun Family Campus continues to grow after the announcement of a $25 million gift from Newport Beach philanthropists Ben and Carmela Du.
In March, the Hoag Hospital Foundation announced a $25 million gift from visionary Newport Beach philanthropists Ben and Carmela Du to the Boldly Hoag campaign. The Du Family Hospital Pavilion on the expanded Sun Family Campus in Irvine will be named in their honor. Since the announcement was made, excitement around Boldy Hoag and the Sun Family Campus has continued to grow.
The Orange County Register and the Chronicle of Philanthropy have recognized the Du family’s transformational generosity, and local and national news outlets, including Stu News Newport, KTLA, Yahoo Finance, AP News, and others, have reported on the Du’s gift to Hoag’s billion-dollar expansion effort. When complete, the project will bring new specialty centers dedicated to surgical innovation, women’s health, cancer, and digestive health to the Irvine campus. By helping Hoag increase access to comprehensive care for more communities in South Orange County, generous donors like Ben and Carmela, including Diana and David Sun, the Pacific Life Foundation, and other early supporters, are shaping the future of health and wellness for generations of patients. In addition to specialty care, Hoag’s expanded Sun Family Campus will offer holistic wellness and support services that address whole-patient care, along with beautifully landscaped gardens and decks that promote the healing elements of nature.
According to Ben Du, the couple’s gift was a logical choice. “The campus is central to more communities. We feel it’s important that Hoag is expanding its reach. We are honored to be involved and to support the Irvine area and other growing South County communities,” he said.
The momentum surrounding the naming of the Du Family Hospital Pavilion marks a milestone for the Boldly Hoag campaign, which champions three bold initiatives: elevating the patient experience, recruiting and retaining top talent, and designing and building the future of health.
