On the Sun Family Campus in Irvine, thoughtful and calming elements will punctuate Hoag’s state-of-the-art patient experience.
Modeled after the Sue J. Gross Comprehensive Breast Center on Hoag’s Newport Beach campus, the new Breast and Imaging Center on Hoag’s Sun Family Campus in Irvine will offer a soothing, functional patient experience and access to the latest technology. Eight new exam rooms, two consultation rooms, seven mammography suites, five ultrasound rooms, a biopsy ultrasound suite, an MRI suite, and a visitor lobby and staff lounge will ensure Hoag has the capacity to provide exceptional, compassionate care to South Orange County communities.
In line with the design ethos of the Sun Family Campus, the new breast center will be distinguished by nature-inspired elements, including LED displays with outdoor scenery in procedure rooms. Paired with aromatherapy and relaxing spa sounds, LED displays are part of a calming sensory experience Hoag is focused on creating for patients undergoing potentially anxiety-producing procedures, like biopsies, preoperative care, and breast MRIs.
These features are complemented by plenty of natural light and organic building materials, such as wood and stone, which serve as an extension of Hoag’s whole-person approach to care, with attention to patients’ mental and emotional well-being. The Breast and Imaging Center will be located within the new Women’s Hospital Pavilion—a priority of the Boldly Hoag campaign—and will exemplify the elevated patient experience available at a world-class health center.
Expansion, however, is about more than state-of-the-art facilities. It’s also about pushing the boundaries of medicine to advance standards of care. Dr. January Lopez, medical director of breast imaging at Hoag, was a pioneer in utilizing AI as a tool for analyzing breast mammograms. Acting as a second pair of eyes to evaluate potential abnormalities, AI is helping Hoag achieve better outcomes for patients with earlier and more accurate diagnoses. As an early adopter of AI in breast mammography, Dr. Lopez continues to lead Hoag’s preeminent breast imaging team to innovate, expanding what’s possible in breast care for women in Orange County.
