2016 Toshiba Classic presented by Kingston Technology

Brings the Best of the Game while Benefiting Hoag and the Greater Community

Golf fans on the course, and those watching from home, enjoyed another great Toshiba Classic which took place at the beautifully-renovated Newport Beach Country Club.  Jay Haas birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Bart Bryant and win the Toshiba Classic for the second time in his career (2007, 2016). At the age of 62, Haas is now the second-oldest winner in PGA Champions Tour history and just the fourth player in Tour history with multiple victories in his 60s.

Haas, with the entire PGA and fans, celebrated the memory of Arnold Palmer. He told the Los Angeles Times, "To play well and to be the champion here the week that Arnold passed is awfully special. Hopefully, he's smiling."

2016 marks the 19th year that Hoag has been the event manager, host and primary beneficiary of this renowned event. Consistently raising $1 million each year for Hoag, the Toshiba Classic has benefited health care in our community in ways that are incalculable. Since 2011, proceeds have benefited the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag.
On behalf of golf lovers, local businesses and Hoag patients and families in our community, we offer our heartfelt thanks to Kingston Technology and our other committed sponsors as well as more than 800 volunteers and thousands of fans who support the Toshiba Classic.

We also express our deep appreciation toToshiba America, Inc. which extended its title sponsorship of the PGA TOUR Champions event that bears its name for three more years. Mark your calendar for the return of the Toshiba Classic in March 2018.

Tournament Week Highlights:

•  The 2016 Toshiba Classic inaugurated its first Student Day, inviting all junior golfers to tee up and play for free.
•  Two-time PGA TOUR Major Champion and Champions Tour rookie John Daly was the guest of honor at the annual Breakfast with a Champion event sponsored by Allergan.

•  With women’s health issues constantly evolving, the Toshiba Classic changed the Women’s Business Day format to Womanology 2016, a special event attended by more than 250 women. In partnership with Hoag and sponsors – Allergan, Cigna and RightSourcing – guests were led on a journey to better health and enhanced well-being.
